6 Ways to Learn & Grow on International Women's Day 2022

Happy International Women’s Day (IWD)! At SKILLR, we take every opportunity we can to learn and grow so whether you’ll be spending the day celebrating yourself or the people in your life, we invite you to join us in using the day to expand your mind.

Here are a few ways to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022.

Practice self-care

Calling all the ladies! Make International Women’s Day all about you by showing yourself some love today.

Self-care looks different for everyone and can mean everything from feeding yourself well, doing laundry and taking your meds to taking yourself on a date, doing a movement practice, getting your makeup done or having a spa day at home.

Don’t know where to start? Think about the things that make you feel most nourished and alive.

You can always call up an expert on SKILLR to help you with your self-care practices. We’ve got yoga teachers, guided meditation pros and tarot card readers on deck. Get rid of bad vibes by doing an energy clearing with a witchcraft consultant on the app. You can even match with a nutritionist or personal trainer to help you create a game plan to make taking care of yourself a habit.

Or, get around to those tasks you’ve been putting off around your space—figure out why your plants keep wilting or fix that towel rack that keeps falling off, all with the help of experts (because taking care of your space can be a form of self-care too).

Read the work of feminist & womanist authors

Womanist and feminist thinkers and activists have played a huge role in making the world a more equal place. Dedicate some time to learning about their work and the impact it’s had on different human rights causes.

If you’re lost on where to start, check out some of my faves: bell hooks, Jessica Valenti, Adrienne Maree Brown, Gloria Steinem and Audre Lorde.

Learn about how you can #BreakTheBias

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #BreakTheBias. You can learn more about it here, but essentially this year is all about daring to imagine a world without bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

The IWD org is asking folks to join them in posting a #BreakTheBias selfie on social media. If you want to go beyond raising awareness online, you can use the day to learn more about what bias is and how it may impact yourself and others.

We all have biases and learning to understand them can help make the world a better, more equitable place for everyone.

Volunteer your time

Donate your time and energy to a cause you care about on International Women’s Day. Look into women’s shelters, health clinics, food banks and other orgs in your community serving women. Spending the day living out your values and helping others is always a day well spent.

You can also search for events happening virtually or in your city on the International Women’s Day website, and either attend or see if you can volunteer at them.

Share your expertise and experiences

Sharing our expertise and experiences as women and professionals can help other people learn, grow or even just feel less alone. Think about how you can share your experiences around bias with others on social media, at a community event or in a blog post. You never know who can relate and how it might help them through a similar experience.

On SKILLR, you can share your expertise to earn that coin all while helping others learn and grow. Find out more about becoming a Skillr today. No matter what skills you have, there’s a place for you! Even if we don’t currently have your specific skill listed, know that we’re always adding more and would love to hear from you.

Support female artists, musicians & business owners

Put your money where your mouth is and be intentional about where you spend on IWD! Use your dollars to support the work of your fave women in music, art, fashion, food and business. That can look like shopping at your local, women-owned boutique or finally shelling out for a painting from that artist you’ve been following on Insta for a while.

You can also connect with talented musicians and entrepreneurs on the SKILLR App anytime. Whether it’s throwing a small dance party with the help of a DJ, taking a personalized dance lesson with a choreographer or learning more about different cannabis strains from a budtender and cannabis consultant, there are so many ways to support female artisans, creatives and professionals!
