Connect with a Pro on Miniature Golf Day

September 21st is Miniature Golf Day worldwide and, at SKILLR, we’ll be celebrating with the help of our professional golf instructors. Learn more about the holiday, then go out and practice your swing!

What is Miniature Golf Day?

Miniature Golf Day is a day to celebrate and play miniature golf. The history of how the holiday came to be is unclear but the sport itself was invented in Victorian Scotland and was created in part thanks to the feminist movement.

Miniature golf was created in the 19th century in order to allow women to play the game. Social rules of the day said that women shouldn’t raise a golf club higher than the shoulder. The act was seen as “unladylike,” according to National Today.

To remedy this, in 1867, the Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews created a mini version of the sport so that women could also enjoy the game of golf. Mini golf became more popular as it spread across Europe and, later, the world.

Is it the same as National Miniature Golf Day?

Nope! National Miniature Golf Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of May in the United States, while Miniature Golf Day is celebrated worldwide on September 21st.
