Skillr Profile: Rachelle Goins

 

Rachelle Goins is a personal trainer on the SKILLR App helping people achieve their health goals. She chatted with us about how her own journey into fitness led her to pursuing it as a career and what she gets up to when she’s not at the gym. 


Q: Can you tell me your name and pronouns and what you do on SKILLR?

A: Rachelle Goins, She/Her/Hers. I’m a personal trainer on SKILLR. 


Q: How did you get into your field?

A: I got into this field after experiencing some complications with my health. I wanted to make a healthy lifestyle change and become very active in the gym. One thing led to another and I decided to become a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach so that I could help others on their journey. 


Q: Where did your passion for fitness come from?

A: My passion for fitness came from wanting to be my best and healthiest self. 


Q: What’s your favorite thing about teaching people about fitness?

A: My favorite thing about teaching people about fitness is creating custom programming for my clients based on their goals and what they want to achieve. Everyone is different so I enjoy working with everyone individually to create plans that will work for them. 


Q: What does a typical day look like in your profession?

A: Every day is different. Some days I will have a lot of one-on-one training sessions, either in person or virtual. Other days will be more administrative days where I focus on creating individual workout and nutrition plans for clients as well as doing check-ins to see how they are progressing. Most days are a mix of both. 


Q: What do you normally discuss on a Skillr call?

A: On a Skillr call, I answer any fitness or nutrition questions that a Seekr may have. We can also talk about their goals and how I believe they can achieve them. We may also do a virtual workout together. 


Q: What are some common challenges people run into with creating a fitness routine?

A: It’s important that people find a workout or activity that they enjoy doing. If you’re not doing something that you like to do, it becomes a chore which can lead to giving up.

A: Watching a true crime documentary or trying a new DC restaurant.

Q: On SKILLR, we’re all about learning and growing and taking small steps to gain new knowledge and skills. What’s one thing you’re learning about or interested in learning more about right now?

A: I have recently taken an interest in photography and I’m looking forward to exploring that more. 

Q: What would you say to people who want to learn more about fitness but are nervous or confused about where to get started?

A: Reach out to a professional. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and express what your goals are.
