Tips for Your First Skillr Call

So you’re officially a Skillr? Congrats! We’re happy dancing right there with you.

Now that you’re a Pro on the app, you’re probably wondering how to prepare for your first call and what you should expect when engaging with Seekrs. No need for nerves—use this guide to rock your first call.

Set up your space

The preparation for a Skillr call starts before your phone even rings. First, you’ll want to get an idea of where you’ll take Skillr calls. Sometimes, depending on how you set your availability, you may get a call while you’re out and that’s ok, as long as you have a strong connection, feel comfortable taking the call and are able to give the Seekr your full attention. But most of the time, you’ll probably want a consistent setup.

Perhaps, you’re a chef so it makes sense to take calls from your kitchen. Maybe you have an office and want to take calls from your desk. You could be a dance instructor so it makes sense to talk to Skillrs from your studio. Or, maybe golf is your specialty so you plan to take calls while you’re out on the green.

We also recommend investing in a phone stand so you won’t have to worry about holding up your phone the entire call and can use your hands if you need to demo something to the Seekr.

Get comfortable

During the first minute of a call, you’ll want to meet your Seekr and introduce yourself. You can spend this first minute telling them a little bit about what you do, exchanging brief pleasantries and getting an idea of what they’re looking for.

Identify the problem

Also during this first couple of minutes, you’ll want to get an idea of what your Seekr needs. This will vary depending on what your expertise is. But, for example, if you’re a personal trainer, you may get a call in which someone is looking for running shoe recommendations or tips on growing their endurance. Or, you may get a call in which the caller is wanting to do a live training session with you. The call’s success ultimately hinges on your ability to identify the problem or question a Seekr has.

Offer solutions

The next part of the call is where you use your expertise to offer solutions or provide a service. Taking the example above, if the Seekr is looking for tips for maintaining endurance during a run, you can give them tips and tricks on doing so. If they’re looking for a training session, you can ask questions to figure out what muscle groups they want to work and then lead them through a workout.

Call to action

Be sure to thank the Seekr at the end of the call and leave them with a call to action. Ask them to leave you a review, as it can help motivate more Seekrs to book you in the app. And, if they’re trying to build a habit or continuously work on a skill, now’s the time to remind them of any action steps you recommend as they work towards their goals (ex. Book another session, practice a certain number of times per week, etc.).
