4 Spring Makeup Trends to Learn on SKILLR

Get an idea of what looks you can try in your next SKILLR makeup session! Skillr and Makeup Artist Jazmine Flores takes us from winter drab to spring fab, sharing some of the top trends to watch out for this season. She also gives us some tips on how to spring clean our makeup collections.

Scroll through the looks below for some serious inspiration as the weather warms up.

Fresh and bold

With brighter days comes the chance to use lighter colors in your makeup looks again but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock bold looks this spring. Instead of channeling bold, badass energy on the eyes or lips, Jazmine recommends being a little heavier-handed on your cheeks.

“For spring 2022, I’m seeing a lot of blush,” Jazmine said. “Some call it statement blush, some call it bold. Either way, it's more blush than I would normally feel comfortable with, but the technique makes it very wearable and not only for high fashion. Just remember to blend upward towards your temples and not leave it so focused on the apples of your cheek and you’re in the trend!”

If you’re sad to part with some of your winter faves, don’t fret. “What to keep from your winter collection [is] lip gloss,” Jazmine said. “Lips like the gloss in the winter because it's hydrating but no worries, glossy looks are here to stay for spring as well as glossy highlighter and lids!”

Purple rain

Find ways to incorporate the color of the year in your looks this season. “I am personally super excited to try adding some Veri Peri to my blush routine,” Jazmine shared. “It's a lavender/periwinkle/violet mix that we’ll be seeing a lot of this spring and I think that color on brown eyes would be so beautiful.”

St. Patty’s Day Greens

Get to cleaning

While you’re spring cleaning your space, don’t forget to Marie Kondo your makeup. Jazmine suggests throwing out things that don’t spark joy as well as anything that’s past its expiration date.

“You should absolutely be spring cleaning your makeup kits, making sure to toss anything expired, anything that wasn't your shade or you didn't like,” Jazmine advised. “There’s no need to keep it sitting if you'll most likely never use it again. And lastly, re-up on some beauty blenders; they always come in handy. Any season or any occasion, it's always good to have a clean fresh sponge to blend it all together!”

To find your expiration date, you can look at the label on the bottom of each product. There, you’ll typically find a symbol of a makeup jar with a number inside it. For example, you may see “12M” or “6M” listed—that means the product is good for 12 or six months.
