Skillr Profile: Jazzmin Howard

 

Jazzmin is a Guided Meditation Coach on the SKILLR App. She sat down with us to talk about how she got interested in mindfulness and the life-changing power of meditation. 

Q: How did you get into your field?

A: I went to school for sociology, which was amazing, but I am not a huge school person; though I do enjoy learning. I felt like I was doing it for gratification from others more so than from myself. After graduating, I chose to focus on what fulfills me internally, for me—meditation and mindfulness.

Q: Where did your passion for meditation and mindfulness come from?

A: My passion for meditation and mindfulness comes from its wholeness and holistic attributes. Everyone can benefit from being more mindful and integrating meditation. I believe being mindful of our interconnectedness is not only important, but responsible; so that is why I aim to teach.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about teaching people about mindfulness?

A: My favorite thing to teach about meditation and mindfulness is how easy it can be to integrate into our daily life. Body scans are one of my favorites to teach because it allows one to come into tune with ourselves, and our minds by way of connecting with our bodies. It’s empowering because this vibrant energy can be felt evidently living through us.

Q: What’s one thing you want Seekrs to know about you?

A: One thing I want Seekrs to know about me is that I am extremely empathetic and understanding. Meditation and mindfulness takes a bit of vulnerability; and I am well aware of how uncomfortable that can be. I want Seekrs to be well aware of the fact that I, too, still struggle with vulnerability and this is an open space to attempt to do it together. We’re all here for one another; so help me help you.

Q: What would you say to people who want to learn more about mindfulness but are nervous or confused about where to get started?

A: Whoever wants to learn meditation and mindfulness, please know that it is for EVERYONE and this practice does not discriminate. There is no right or wrong way to approach this practice. Just as much as I want my Seekrs to know I am here for them, meditation and mindfulness is here for you just the same. Please hear me when I say how important and humbling it is to recognize yourself and self-worth through M&M. Your days will become easier, your body will become lighter and your stressors will become your fire. You truly will begin to feel unconquerable.
